Police in New York are seeking assistance from the public to find several men accused of assaulting a San Antonio Spurs fan following a loss by the New York Knicks on Monday. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has released several photos of the suspects involved in this incident.
This altercation happened outside a watch party at Bryant Park during Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, held on June 8, 2026, in New York City. The event saw considerable unrest following the Knicks’ defeat. In response, the NYPD, along with the Secret Service, canceled a planned watch party near Madison Square Garden. Fans were advised to arrive early, at least two hours before the game, due to increased security for the attendance of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the NYPD, the suspects allegedly punched and kicked the victim, tearing off his Spurs jersey in the attack. The confrontation occurred at approximately 12:17 a.m. as the 39-year-old victim was making his way back to his hotel. After the assault, the attackers fled the scene on foot. The victim was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive his injuries.
The incident is part of a broader pattern of unruly behavior observed after the game, as described by the NYPD. Some frustrated Knicks fans engaged in disruptive actions, such as climbing light poles, throwing objects at officers, and uprooting street signs. These incidents occurred near Madison Square Garden, traditionally a place for jubilant gatherings during the team’s playoff successes. However, access to the area around the arena was restricted due to the heightened security presence for President Trump’s visit.
The police reported that a total of eight individuals were arrested in connection with these disturbances, including two for assaulting police officers. Additionally, 13 others were issued criminal court summonses.
