Local Groups Demand Halt to Statue Garden Project in West Potomac Park

2 weeks ago 0

Six local preservation and cultural heritage organizations have called for a suspension of work on the statue garden in West Potomac Park. They assert that the project should not proceed until Congress provides authorization.

As of June 15, 2026, discussions have arisen following the completion of a significant seawall restoration in West Potomac Park. President Donald Trump’s administration has eyed this Washington park as a possible location for the proposed National Garden of American Heroes.

On Monday, a coalition of Washington-area preservation and cultural heritage groups filed a lawsuit against the Trump’s administration’s plan. They aim to prevent the transformation of national parkland into a large garden featuring statues.
