Diplomatic Tensions Rise Between Trump and Meloni

1 week ago 0

President Donald Trump has strongly criticized Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, escalating a diplomatic conflict over a disputed photograph.

The Italian foreign minister canceled a scheduled visit to the United States in protest of Trump’s remarks regarding Meloni. Trump alleged that Meloni had ‘begged’ for a photo with him at the G7 summit.

Meloni firmly rejected Trump’s assertion, declaring it “completely unfounded.” She stated, “Neither I, nor Italy, ever beg.” Her denial aimed to counter Trump’s claims about her actions during the G7 meeting in France.

On Truth Social, Trump alleged that Meloni repeatedly requested a photo opportunity with him at the summit. His comments sparked further controversy.

Trump also criticized Meloni’s leadership in Italy, attributing her low popularity to Italy’s absence in the U.S. and Israel’s military operations against Iran. “She wouldn’t even let us use Italy’s landing strips or runways, a great logistical inconvenience,” Trump wrote.

He further commented, “Now, after the United States defeated Iran militarily, she wants to be friends again in order to get her ‘numbers up.’ No thanks!!!”

This situation continues to evolve, with additional information expected.
