A recent renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington has led to problems, including algae bloom and paint peeling, causing concerns about the pool’s condition.
President Trump announced that several individuals have been arrested for vandalizing the pool. Among them is David Carter Hearn, a three-time Olympian who was charged after touching the peeling paint mixed with algae.
The renovation project, costing over $14 million, involved painting the pool bottom a shade dubbed ‘American flag blue.’ However, the paint began peeling off shortly after, while algae covered the water surface.
The president acknowledged the deterioration and stated that part of the pool might need draining for repairs. Although arrests were made, the administration has not released other names.
Trump accused those arrested of potentially facing years in jail and alleged they poured harmful chemicals into the pool, although this claim was unsupported by evidence.
