The Milan Fashion Week saw a distinctive approach to menswear from Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons with their latest collection. The duo focused on creating practical streetwear rather than fashion exclusivity. Their new line showcases slim, cropped jackets and five-pocket trousers, combined with classic blazers and leather blousons.
Inspired by Everyday Style
Despite drawing inspiration from jeans, Prada herself confessed never wearing them. Simons recently returned to jeans after years of opting for wool trousers. Yet, they’ve redefined jeans-inspired fashion with five-pocket designs and flat-pocket jackets becoming emblematic of their spring and summer offerings.
These pieces feature luxurious leather in shades like antique white, gray, burgundy, and turquoise. Rock guitar riffs set the runway atmosphere, while transparent white fabrics catered to warmth, reflecting Europe’s recent heatwave. Denim appeared sparingly, focusing the collection on alternative materials.
Uniquely Styled Details
The collection includes geometric patterned shirts and vests with striking silk scarves. The only bags featured were colorful pouches worn at the waist, with some attached to thick belts. Pointy shoes with Velcro straps completed these ensembles.
Connecting with the Streets
Prada stressed the importance of universal, non-superfluous designs, contrasting with much of today’s runway outputs. Simons echoed this sentiment, aiming to realign fashion with streetwear, a source of many strong fashion trends throughout history. He highlighted the collection’s clean and hopeful designs.
The show took place in a minimalist showroom, emphasizing simplicity through clear bench seating. Attendees included notable figures like NBA player Anthony Edwards, singer Troye Sivan, K-pop group ENHYPEN, and actor Louis Partridge. Fans endured the summer heatwave to see their favorite stars.
