On July 4th, President Trump commenced the 250th anniversary celebrations with a speech at Mount Rushmore. He praised American culture and warned against the resurgence of communism in the country. Speaking in front of the iconic granite faces of four past presidents, Trump emphasized that American identity is under threat from communist ideologies.
The President accused newcomers of embracing ideas contrary to American values and success. He stated, “There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success. You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.”
Addressing the crowd, Trump remarked, “You do not have to be born here, but you do have to love what we have built, you must love our country.” He highlighted the dangers of communism and urged for the repeal of the filibuster and passing of the SAVE America Act. This act would require Americans to prove their citizenship when registering to vote and present valid photo identification at the polls.
Trump urged, “As we march into our 250th year, incredible, beautiful year it will be, we must never forget: There is no American freedom without American culture, and there is no American founding without the American people.” He articulated the essence of American culture, emphasizing the love for freedom and independence.
He declared, “Americans love freedom. We cherish independence, and we know that we are the heirs to the most beautiful land, the most thrilling story, and the most precious legacy on which the sun has ever shined in America. We do not need anyone’s permission to say what we think, and to live as we please, to worship as we choose, or to keep and bear arms.”
In a separate address, Trump announced the pardoning of six individuals charged with pollution violations. He claimed these individuals were “fixing their car” at the time of their offenses.
