Shooting in Coney Island Injures Eight, Including Two Children

Eight individuals were injured in a shooting incident that took place in Coney Island on Saturday night. The crowd had gathered to enjoy the Fourth of July fireworks when gunshots rang out, the police reported.

The shooting occurred at 10:37 p.m. after officers received a 911 call. They responded to 2929 West 31st Street in Brooklyn, near Surf Avenue and the Coney Island boardwalk. The fireworks display had started at 10 p.m. Arriving at the scene, officers found eight victims ranging in age from six to 37 years old.

A 21-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was reported to be in critical condition as of early Sunday. The injured included four boys aged six, seven, 12, and 14. The seven-year-old was shot in both legs, while the six-year-old suffered an abdominal gunshot wound. All are expected to recover from their injuries, according to the police.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown. The police did not identify a suspect, and no arrests have been made so far.
