Country music star Jelly Roll has openly discussed his struggle with stress eating amid his ongoing divorce from Bunnie Xo. In a conversation with a fan, Jelly Roll confessed that his tendency to overeat emerged quickly.
Jelly Roll shared his perspective on addictive behaviors, revealing that his challenges with obesity likely arise from a mindset similar to what fueled his past issues with substance abuse. He explained in a YouTube video from July 10, “I’ve been overeating the last three or four days, and I was feeling myself stress eating. And then, what else happened was the addict in me came out.”
“We had this show at this one spot that I love their catering,” he explained. “They have a dairy-free skillet cookie. I don’t eat nothing like that. I’m like a drug addict. You can’t eat that, because if I eat one, I eat two. I eat four. Later that night, I’m at the taco truck getting the peanut butter fluff. Next thing I know, we’re at the rest stop. I’m looking for a chocolate bar. I’m like, ‘Damn, that fast, now I’ve consumed 2,000 extra calories today that I didn’t even see coming.'”
Jelly Roll, once weighing over 500 pounds, has been open about his remarkable health transformation, having lost 275 pounds. This journey reshaped not only his career but also inspired many fans. Recently, he disclosed that moderation remains a significant challenge.
He admitted, “Like, that’s like the hardest thing to understand is that I can’t have one burger. I got to have five. No, I can’t. I can’t have one anything … It’s like even like my problem is it could be healthy.” Jelly Roll further explained, “Like if you put a big bowl of strawberries — if you put a bowl this big of strawberries in front of me, and leave me alone, I will eat the entire bowl of strawberries for sure. Like I’ve got to take a few strawberries and be like, put the bowl away … or just not eat the strawberry at all.”
The singer emphasized that the mindset affecting his food choices mirrors that of his other addictions. “What I learned is how you do anything is how you do everything,” he noted. His approach to food reveals similar patterns to those he encountered with substances like alcohol. Jelly Roll shared, “Either we’re smoking all day, we’re drinking all night, we’re doing cocaine. That’s how it’s working for me. So, it’s like once I realized that was my thing with food, now I just have things that are just like, like that skillet cookie, I just don’t eat it.”
This awareness has altered how Jelly Roll handles cheat meals, acknowledging that one indulgence can lead to prolonged binge eating. He remarked that a single cheat meal could extend into “a five-day food bender.”
Reflecting on deeper issues linked to obesity, Jelly Roll stated, “People don’t get it. I tell people, ‘You don’t become the size you became without having a mental health issue.'” He mentioned, “It’s something way deeper. It’s a different thing,” but added that realization leads to change when one understands their true cravings and triggers.
Jelly Roll cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce proceedings initiated on May 18, with the separation date marked as May 9. The couple, married for almost a decade, tied the knot in August 2016 in Las Vegas. Bunnie Xo became a stepmother to Jelly Roll’s children, Bailee and Noah.
