Social media influencers Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were taken into custody in Miami on Saturday. The arrests followed an announcement by British prosecutors of new criminal charges and a request for their extradition to the United Kingdom.
The brothers, known for their large online followings and controversial views on women, were apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service in Miami. Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the agency, confirmed the arrests to The Associated Press (AP).
The U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) revealed that additional charges had been filed against the Tates, involving four more alleged victims. The CPS has requested their extradition from the United States.
According to a statement released by the CPS, Andrew Tate, 39, is facing seven additional counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and 19 charges related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The offenses are alleged to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. These new charges increase the total number of alleged victims to seven.
The Tates have consistently denied any wrongdoing. Following their arrest, Joseph McBride, the lawyer representing them, stated to the BBC, “the world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent.”
