Drive-By Shooting Critically Injures 5-Year-Old Boy in Chicago

A 5-year-old boy sustained critical injuries in a drive-by shooting that occurred late at night on the Near West Side in Chicago’s Little Italy/UIC neighborhood, according to police reports. The incident unfolded shortly after 12:30 a.m. when a black SUV approached a large group at the 1000 block of West 14th Place. An individual within the vehicle began firing at the group.

The young boy was struck in the abdomen and was swiftly transported to Stroger Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Additionally, a 39-year-old man was shot in the buttocks. He was taken to the same hospital and is reported to be in good condition, police stated.

Following the shooting, the SUV reportedly escaped the scene by heading south on Morgan Street. Authorities noted that no suspects are currently in custody, and detectives are actively investigating the case.
