Riley Gaines Criticizes Nancy Armour’s Column

Riley Gaines, host of “The Riley Gaines Show,” strongly criticized USA Today writer Nancy Armour for her recent column on Caitlin Clark. Armour’s opinion piece compared Emmett Till’s lynching to the supposed danger Clark puts “Black” and “queer” WNBA players in.

Armour wrote about the country’s history of harm against Black people to defend White women. The column highlighted the WNBA’s All-Star Game in Chicago, where Emmett Till was murdered, becoming a symbol of the civil rights movement.

Gaines reacted strongly, describing Armour’s comparison as the “worst one by a mile,” expressing disbelief over the correlation between Till’s lynching and Clark’s basketball actions. She called the writer insane for this comparison.

“Do you realize what Nancy Armour is doing there? She’s connecting Emmett Till’s lynching to Caitlin Clark’s talent and skill set and behavior on the basketball court. Excuse me?”

Gaines continued to criticize Armour, labeling her as an all-time “rage-baiter.” She suggested that Armour’s article might have been a ploy to incite outrage.

Armour later apologized for her comments, stating the comparison was “inartful” and lacking context. She intended to connect current issues with the All-Star Game’s location in Chicago.
