The Tour de France concluded on Sunday, but the event did not proceed without a notable mishap. During Stage 19 Friday, Colombian cyclist Einer Rubio encountered an unforeseen accident while ascending Alpe d’Huez. Rubio was positioned behind a support vehicle when, unexpectedly, the vehicle had to abruptly halt. The incident unfolded on a narrow stretch of road crowded with spectators.

Strategically, riding closely behind a vehicle can be beneficial, utilizing the slipstream created. The accident proved detrimental for Rubio, who required an hour in the medical tent before being flown to a hospital. He received 20 stitches due to facial injuries. His ranking at the time was 27th overall.
