Sheriff’s detectives in Santa Clara County are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at a large party in Morgan Hill on Saturday. Authorities reported one fatality and seven injuries resulting from the event.

Deputies responded to reports of disturbances at approximately 10:15 p.m. The complaints included intoxicated individuals in the street and an individual throwing bottles at vehicles, according to Brooks Jarosz from the County of Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered a chaotic situation. Over 300 individuals were seen fleeing the scene after gunshots were fired. Several people sustained gunshot wounds and required medical care.

One person was declared dead at the location of the incident. No suspects were immediately arrested.

This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable, said Sheriff Robert Jonsen. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.

The gathering was described by authorities as an “unsanctioned party” which had been advertised on social media platforms.
