Mack Hollins: Embracing Eccentricity as a Patriots Wide Receiver

3 weeks ago 0

Mack Hollins has found his unique place within the New England Patriots, not through conventional means like enhanced speed or better defensive reads. Instead, it’s all about his habitually bare feet. In his second year with the Patriots, Hollins has embraced walking anywhere without shoes, a habit that’s gained local acceptance. Restaurants have started allowing him to dine barefoot.

At a Patriots training camp, Hollins expressed his satisfaction, saying, “I love it. It’s great because now they’re kind of letting me slide being barefoot in restaurants and stuff because they know who I am.” Initially mistaken for a homeless individual, Hollins now navigates his unique approach to life with ease.

If you’re uneasy around bare feet outside of the beach, Hollins’ style might not impress. However, those who followed last season might be more accepting. Hollins played an unexpected key role, starting 13 regular-season and two postseason games. He scored the team’s only touchdown on a 35-yard reception in Super Bowl LX.

Hollins’ quirks extend beyond his footwear choices. He prefers eating with his hands rather than using utensils because it helps him gauge food temperatures better. Hollins once acknowledged his eccentric reputation among teams, noting, “Every team I’ve been on, you ask them who’s the weirdest guy they’re going to say Mack.” Yet, he describes his quirks as endearing rather than disruptive.

The Patriots’ fan base is becoming more accepting of Hollins’ eccentricities. His habit of attending games shirtless and barefoot, regardless of the weather, and donning masks at championship games, adds to his distinctive persona.

Hollins explains his preference for going shoeless, emphasizing, “I think shoes are a tool and people have made them a part of their body. I wouldn’t walk around with a hammer just because I might need a hammer sometimes.” His philosophy challenges conventional norms, earning him a distinct place in New England.
