Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, known as the first undisputed super middleweight champion, stands as a prominent figure in boxing. His journey began when he claimed his first world title at just 20 years old. Now, at the age of 36, the Mexican boxer shared his thoughts on retirement in a conversation with ‘CBS Mornings.’

Álvarez explained, ‘When I’m there in the gym and I take a lot of punches and my body doesn’t respond in the same way, then I know.’ He emphasized that the training camp plays a crucial role in assessing his readiness and performance. ‘I’m not going to go and fight with that kind of training,’ he stated, highlighting the importance of recognizing physical limitations.

With over 60 victories and titles spanning four weight classes, Álvarez expressed contentment with his career. Yet, he admitted, ‘There’s not much left for me to do’ in the sport. He also revealed his interest in pursuing achievements outside boxing.

For those interested in hearing more, Álvarez’s interview airs Friday on ‘CBS Mornings.’
