A’ja Wilson’s Stellar Performance Solidifies Her GOAT Status in Women’s Basketball

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson has firmly established herself as a standout figure in women’s basketball. Recognized by many as potentially the best player globally, Wilson openly addresses the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) discussions surrounding her name.

In a recent interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, which aired on Thursday, July 30, Wilson shared her thoughts. She expressed surprise, saying, “It’s crazy. When people say it, it’s truly crazy because you think about so many people that have been on this list of GOATs, and I just wouldn’t imagine my name being on it at this point of my career. I’m just like, ‘Uh-uh, I still got so much to do. I still have to keep going. I want more.’ So when people say it, I’m like, thanks, but what?”

Wilson continued by stating, “If I’m the GOAT, cool, I’m there. In my eyes, I’ve been the GOAT since ’96, so this is just a part of it.”

The accolades Wilson has achieved are impressive. She holds the title of reigning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, WNBA MVP, WNBA Finals MVP, and WNBA champion. Notably, she is the first player in WNBA history to achieve all four honors in a single season. Since being picked as the No. 1 overall in 2018, Wilson has been an All-Star eight times and stands as the WNBA’s only four-time MVP.

Wilson leads the league this season, averaging 26.2 points per game in scoring and 2.0 blocks per game. Over 25 games for the Aces who are 19-8, her stats are notable. She maintains averages of 26.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.6 steals.
