Hannah Harper, winner of Season 24 of “American Idol,” credits her husband’s significant career change with helping launch her country music aspirations. Speaking with Fox News Digital, Harper shared how her husband left a nearly ten-year career in law enforcement to become her tour manager.
“It has strengthened our marriage in unforeseen ways,” Harper commented. Her husband, Devon Mendenhall, initially tried to manage his insurance job alongside Harper’s burgeoning music career but chose ultimately to join her on the road.
“He put his badge up for this,” Harper explained, expressing gratitude for his willingness to support her. As Harper’s career took off following “American Idol,” juggling family and work became a challenge.
Harper and Mendenhall, married since April 2018, are actively managing these dynamics while on tour. They traveled with their three sons and Harper’s extended family, including her brothers and parents, each contributing to the tour’s success.
Recently, Harper signed a brand partnership with Sargento, inspired by her song “String Cheese.” The company sponsors her tour, providing a customized bus for Harper, her team, and family.
Navigating life with family on the road comes with challenges. Harper discussed difficulties in separating work and personal time: “Our work is at home, and it’s hard to turn it off.” Despite these challenges, she finds joy in sharing her achievements with her family.
Harper expressed deep appreciation for her husband’s sacrifice, acknowledging that many might not easily step back from established careers: “A lot of men wouldn’t do that.” She feels honored and supported by Mendenhall’s actions.
Beyond her family dynamic, Harper cited advice from Carrie Underwood, another “American Idol” winner, on managing the pressures of fame: “Separate your stage presence from reality.” Harper strives to stay authentic and connected with her audience while maintaining necessary distinctions between her public persona and personal life.
Harper’s song “String Cheese” has resonated widely, tackling themes of motherhood and postpartum depression. It has become an anthem for parents, connecting with those who share her experiences. Harper described meeting fans who relate deeply to her message, finding healing and understanding in their stories.
Harper concludes by viewing her song’s influence as more than musical: “It’s a song that continues to give,” indicating its role in providing comfort and connection.
Harper will continue her national tour until November, sharing stages with Brad Paisley and Lauren Alaina.
