The Washington Nationals are highly unlikely to trade their star shortstop, CJ Abrams; however, speculations regarding his possible move continue. ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Buster Olney have suggested that if Abrams were to change teams, the Boston Red Sox appear as the most probable destination.
“If Abrams were to move, Boston would be the best bet, though the likelihood is minimal,”
Passan expressed on Sunday.
Abrams, now 25 years old, would demand substantial compensation in a trade scenario. The Nationals reportedly seek both major league players and promising prospects in return for Abrams.
The Boston Red Sox have been associated with various skilled shortstops, including Elly De La Cruz from the Cincinnati Reds, Zach Neto of the Los Angeles Angels, and Otto Lopez from the Miami Marlins. These associations position Boston as the primary contender to secure a top-tier shortstop.
Passan characterized the Red Sox’s approach to acquiring a new shortstop as “aggressive,” noting that there might be a slight chance that teams looking to offload players could capitalize on this opportunity.
With the trade deadline approaching, all parties involved must finalize their strategies swiftly.
