Rising Star Barion Brown Impresses at Saints Training Camp

The New Orleans Saints made a strategic decision in the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting Jordyn Tyson in the first round. This move aimed to pair him with Chris Olave and provide quarterback Tyler Shough with two potent receiving options. Yet, the spotlight at the camp has shifted to Barion Brown, a sixth-round pick, who has been turning heads with his performance.

Recently, head coach Kellen Moore praised Brown’s efforts. On Thursday, Brown demonstrated his talent by catching a 46-yard touchdown from quarterback Spencer Rattler, concluding the two-minute drill on a high note.

Initially part of the second team, Brown’s impressive performance has earned him increased first-team snaps. This progress suggests he might secure a significant role with the Saints in 2026.

In 2023, Brown achieved significant recognition at Kentucky, earning first-team All-American and second-team All-SEC honors. He registered 539 receiving yards with four touchdowns on 43 catches, alongside 576 kickoff return yards and three return touchdowns. The following year, he transferred to LSU for his senior season, gaining 532 receiving yards and a touchdown on 53 catches, plus 445 kickoff return yards and a return touchdown.

Throughout his college career at Kentucky and LSU, Brown amassed 2,060 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. He also gained 1,910 kickoff return yards and scored six return touchdowns. New Orleans recognized his potential on special teams when they drafted him, but his offensive impact is quickly expanding.

Coach Moore commented on the synergy between Rattler and Brown after a practice session. “Barion did a great job adjusting to that ball, tracking it,” Moore stated. “Those are deep balls, and the ball usually tails one way or another because the QB is running, so awesome job making a play.”

Although there is still time before Week 1 of the NFL season, Brown has a realistic chance to secure the No. 3 receiver position. His main rivals for targets include Devaughn Vele and Bryce Lance, a fourth-round rookie.
