Zuckerberg’s Yacht Misses Call for Help; Other Vessel Responds

A yacht belonging to Mark Zuckerberg did not respond to a call for help from a small skiff off Alaska’s coast. Another ship nearby had already assisted. This detail came from a spokesperson for the Meta CEO.

The skiff had contacted the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance. A small cruise ship, the Wilderness Legacy, assisted by towing the skiff into Farragut Bay in Southeast Alaska and providing fuel.

Although closer, Zuckerberg’s yacht, named Launchpad, did not answer the call. Michael Love, a passenger on the Wilderness Legacy, shared his experience on the social media platform Bluesky. He wrote on August 5, ‘Our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night. The Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht, which was closer, but they did not respond. The captain announced this and received near-unanimous booing.’

A spokesperson for Zuckerberg explained that the yacht Launchpad did not initially hear the call. They communicated via email that Mark and his family were not on board during the incident. The Coast Guard did not list the yacht as being in distress. By the time the crew realized the missed call, the assist was already in progress. The spokesperson expressed gratitude that everyone involved was safe.
