Trinidad Chambliss Shines During 2025 Season

5 days ago 0

Trinidad Chambliss’ rise during the 2025 college football season emerged as a compelling narrative. Initially a backup at Ole Miss, Chambliss, who transitioned from being a Division II quarterback at Ferris State, was thrust into the spotlight. He replaced Austin Simmons following an injury in a game against Arkansas on September 13. Chambliss proved pivotal, throwing for 353 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, he contributed 62 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, securing a 41-35 win for Ole Miss.

Chambliss ended the season with impressive statistics. He amassed 3,937 passing yards, alongside 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions. His athleticism was further highlighted by 527 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. These contributions were vital in propelling Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

The role of former Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin in Chambliss’ development was acknowledged. Kiffin was instrumental in identifying Chambliss as a promising talent in the transfer portal and nurturing his skills as a quarterback. However, not everyone in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) concurs on the extent of Kiffin’s influence.

An SEC coach expressed skepticism to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg about the praise directed at Kiffin. According to the coach, Chambliss deserves recognition for his own achievements. “He’s a dude,” the coach remarked about Chambliss, asserting that some of the credit attributed to Kiffin might be overstated.

Following Kiffin’s move to LSU, Chambliss continued to excel. He delivered strong performances by throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns in the CFP quarterfinal against Georgia, which Ole Miss won 39-34. In the semifinal, although Ole Miss lost 31-27 to Miami, Chambliss threw for another 277 yards and a touchdown.

The upcoming matchup on September 19 will feature Kiffin, now with LSU, taking on Chambliss and Ole Miss. Kiffin’s current task involves developing Sam Leavitt, an Arizona State transfer. Should Leavitt achieve similar successes, Kiffin’s reputation for quarterback development might be further solidified.

For Chambliss, the season ahead offers a chance to demonstrate his caliber independent of Kiffin’s guidance. His performance could be crucial in shaping his prospects for the 2027 draft.
