Indiana’s recent success, with seven wins in their last nine games, follows coach Stephanie White’s assertive pregame comments. White defended herself and criticized distractions affecting the WNBA, setting the tone for the Fever’s victory.
The Fever demonstrated impressive shooting accuracy, hitting 59% from the field and 79% from 3-point range, leading to a 64-46 halftime advantage. This performance stood in contrast to their previous game against Las Vegas, where they lost a double-digit lead.
Mitchell’s performance was notable with 11 of 16 shooting, along with four 3-pointers, matched by Clark and Sophie Cunningham. Cunningham added 12 points, and Aliyah Boston contributed 19 points and seven rebounds. The Liberty’s Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each scored 19 points, while Jonquel Jones achieved 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Indiana gained control with a 15-7 run late in the second quarter, extending their lead to 54-37. Although New York attempted to rally in the third quarter, reducing the deficit to 66-57, the Fever regained their footing. Mitchell’s three-point play and Cunningham’s late 3-pointer ensured an 87-67 lead entering the final period.
Indiana maintained their lead for the remainder of the game, preventing the Liberty from closing the gap.
