Murder-Suicide in Kansas Leaves Six Dead

A tragic event unfolded in Winfield, Kansas, when a man reported to 911 that he had killed his family before taking his own life. The call, made early on Tuesday, led police to a residence where they discovered six bodies, including that of the caller.

Police Chief Robbie DeLong stated that as the first officer approached the scene, a gunshot was heard, prompting a tactical retreat. Authorities established a perimeter due to concerns about a potential active shooter situation.

Officers entered the residence about two hours after the initial 911 call. Inside, they found the bodies of six individuals, victims of an apparent murder-suicide near 9th Avenue and Stewart Street.

The man identified as the shooter was Ronald H. Williams Sr., age 53. He was also the individual who made the 911 call. The victims included his wife, Kelly L. George, aged 44, and their four children, Carol A. Williams, 9, Ronald H. Williams Jr., 7, Sarah K. Williams, 5, and Kelly M. Magee-Williams, 3.

Records show that Williams Sr. had a history of criminal behavior. He was registered as a sex offender with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation since 1997. His criminal record extended over many years, with charges ranging from drug-related offenses to attempted rape and kidnapping, spanning from 1995 to 2024 in several counties in eastern Kansas.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation along with the Winfield Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.
