A tragic event unfolded at a Nashville U-Haul store on August 5. A 23-year-old employee, Devin Rice, allegedly shot and killed his 56-year-old co-worker, Fredrick Lytton, during their shift. Authorities report that the two men were involved in an argument over a drink.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Rice confessed to the altercation with Lytton and admitted to shooting him. The incident took place at the U-Haul location in Nashville, Tennessee. Lytton was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police arrested Rice, charging him with criminal homicide. Witnesses state that Rice fled the scene after the shooting, but was apprehended shortly after.
Local resident Joshua Houghtaylen expressed concern over the rise in crime in Nashville, highlighting the need for increased police efforts to control gun violence. He commented on the situation, stating, “The crime here in Nashville is getting really bad. Police need to do a better job at getting the guns off the street because there’s a lot of shootings in Nashville.”
Jeff Porter, U-Haul area district vice president for Tennessee, released a statement expressing shock and sadness over the incident. He emphasized support for the victim’s family and affected team members during this difficult time.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by what occurred. Our concern right now is being there to support the victim’s family and our Team Members affected by this tragic event,” Porter stated.
