Secretary of State Marco Rubio humorously expressed his fondness for Pop-Tarts while speaking on a podcast, where he dismissed Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s diet. During an episode of “The Katie Miller Podcast” with his wife Jeanette, Rubio was asked about Kennedy’s diet of red meat and fermented vegetables.
“This is a crazy diet,” Rubio joked, expressing his disbelief about traveling with coolers of sauerkraut, which he found impractical. Although he supports Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative, his wife pointed out his preference for sweets, including Pop-Tarts. “No, I don’t eat Pop-Tarts every day,” Rubio countered. Jeanette added, “He eats all the things you should not be eating.”
Rubio playfully described Pop-Tarts as a significant American innovation, packaged conveniently in foil. Despite his light-hearted take, Rubio is recognized as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, positioned 10 points behind Vice President JD Vance in a New Hampshire poll.
Beyond political ambition, Rubio was previously part of a viral meme involving a photo of him on a couch during a meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On “My View with Lara Trump,” Rubio shared his initial dismay when the photo surfaced but later found humor in how it was received.
“The meme thing, it was interesting,” Rubio explained, acknowledging the humorous side of the situation. He even received a compilation board of the various meme-inspired images from a friend at the White House, highlighting the lighthearted perspective he managed to adopt.
