Georgia High School Shooting Results in One Injury, Suspect Apprehended

A shooting incident at Warner Robins High School in Georgia on Wednesday resulted in one student being wounded. The suspect, a teenage student, was later detained by police. This took place just a week into the new school year, prompting a significant law enforcement presence. Warner Robins is located about 102 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Sheriff’s Briefing

Sheriff Matt Moulton addressed the media during an evening news conference, stating that the incident was one they had prepared for through annual training. The injured student was hospitalized but suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Details regarding the injuries were not disclosed. The presence of metal detectors at the school was not confirmed. Moulton refrained from taking questions due to the ongoing investigation.

The altercation began in a school bathroom between two ninth-grade students. A verbal disagreement escalated into physical violence, leading to the shooting at 2:15 p.m. A school resource officer quickly responded, applying tourniquets and staying with the injured student until emergency services arrived.

Suspect Apprehended

An hour post-incident, the suspect was apprehended in a nearby neighborhood, half a mile from the school. Moulton confirmed the arrest occurred without further complications. He noted, “The school threat protocol and our training was followed perfectly today,” emphasizing that the situation was contained to one injury.

School Closures and Support

Houston County Schools Superintendent Richard Rogers announced that the school would remain closed for students on Thursday and Friday, and for staff on Thursday. Crisis counselors would be available for staff on Friday and for students on Monday. Rogers emphasized a commitment to focusing on healing following the incident.
