Hurricane Lala brought intense wind and rain to Hawaii’s Big Island, resulting in one fatal car crash, Governor Josh Green confirmed. The hurricane narrowly missed making landfall, preserving the island’s 155-year record without a direct hurricane strike. About 130,000 utility customers were left without power on Sunday morning. The National Hurricane Center reported that up to a foot of rain fell on parts of Big Island and Maui.
