On a somber Monday, Worcester police announced the discovery of Karen Solomon’s body after a widespread, multi-day search. Karen Solomon was wanted for questioning in relation to the death of her husband, Kurt Solomon, a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department, found deceased at their home.
Kurt Solomon was located at their Wildwood Avenue residence shortly before 5:30 a.m. on a Tuesday. Karen Solomon was last witnessed in the vicinity, dressed in pajama shorts and a tank top. During a news conference, Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier clarified, “There was no history of domestic abuse within the Solomon family. We currently suspect this situation to be a tragic murder-suicide. More investigation is needed to conclude this case.” A firearm was found near Karen Solomon’s body.
The search concentrated around Mill Street and Coes Pond, roughly half a mile from the Solomons’ home. The operation included resources like a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter as well as personnel from Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshals Service.
At the news conference, Chief Saucier shared a statement from the Solomon family. They expressed their heartbreak and thanked the participating agencies for their compassion and efforts. The family’s statement read, “The nightmare of the past week has left us heartbroken. The empathy from all involved agencies has been a guiding light.” They also conveyed gratitude to those offering prayers and sympathies.
