On August 25, 2026, a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter from Fort Campbell, Kentucky landed unexpectedly in a wooded area near the Colorado foothills, west of Denver. The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office reported that four individuals were onboard when the aircraft landed north of Golden Gate Canyon State Park. There were no injuries reported.
Two Army officials confirmed to CBS News that early reports indicated no injuries. An Army spokesperson described the event as an “aviation mishap” occurring during a training operation.
The helicopter is part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, which is based at Fort Campbell. The Army has initiated an investigation into the incident.
The Army released the following statement regarding the incident: “The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) is aware of an August 25, 2026, aviation mishap during routine training operations near Denver, Colorado. The command takes all training incidents and the safety of our personnel seriously. Because this is currently the subject of an active safety investigation, we cannot provide additional comment or information at this time. Questions regarding the matter should be directed to the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command Public Affairs Office.”
