Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made their way back to the United Kingdom, marking six years since they moved to California, leaving their royal roles. Their arrival at Birmingham International Airport was alongside their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. According to The Associated Press, the family’s private flight came from Van Nuys, California, landing shortly before noon.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex opted for their private security team upon leaving the Birmingham Airport, rather than a visible police presence, as reported by The Telegraph. Fox News Digital reached out for comments from their team but hasn’t received a response.
The couple announced an ‘extended’ stay in Britain, enrolling their children, Archie and Lilibet, in British schools, with classes starting in September. They will reside in a private, non-royal house outside London but maintain their California residence.
Despite relocating, Harry and Meghan remain nonworking royals, indicating no re-engagement in royal duties. King Charles III was informed about the move and welcomes the opportunity to spend more time with his grandchildren.
Prince William and Princess Kate have been informed, although some concerns are reported. Kinsey Schofield, host of YouTube’s ‘Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered,’ mentions that Prince William was caught off guard by the Sussexes’ prolonged stay and their eagerness to return to Britain. William’s unexpected situation emerged from Harry’s previous signaling of intending a return.
“He had found Harry’s recent eagerness to publicly signal that he wanted to spend more time in Britain unusual, but that is very different from anticipating a full return,” Schofield noted.
Previously, Harry expressed concerns over returning due to security issues. In May 2025, he told BBC his reluctance to bring Meghan and the children back to the U.K., referencing his appeal loss over police protection levels. Kensington Palace stated they do not comment on private family affairs, maintaining discretion on the matter.
Amid these developments, the surprise move is noteworthy given Harry’s prior security apprehensions. As they settle with their children enrolled in schooling, the couple’s decision continues to draw attention.
