The Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on three far-left international networks. This action is part of an ongoing effort by the U.S. government to address politically motivated violence. The Office of Foreign Assets Control moved against three groups: Autistici Inventati, Palestine Action, and Masar Badil.
Autistici Inventati is a nonprofit based in Italy. According to the Treasury, it provides services to groups promoting violence and chaos.
Palestine Action, based in the U.K., has been labeled a terrorist group. It is known for campaigning aggressively against companies associated with defense and Israel. The British government previously sanctioned this group, highlighting its acts of protest and property damage.
Masar Badil, located in Spain, allegedly acts as a front for the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, already sanctioned for its ties to terrorism finance. This group, according to reports, is involved in activism and opposition against U.S. and Israel policies.
The Treasury Department stated, “Far-left extremists and their enablers should be on notice that we will bring the full weight of our economic tools to bear.”
The Treasury has blocked these groups’ access to property and financial avenues in the U.S., effectively freezing their assets. U.S. citizens are also barred from engaging in financial transactions with them.
Pro-Palestinian activists have shown opposition to these sanctions. Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, criticized the U.S.’s approach, labeling the sanctions as hypocritical.
The Treasury’s report reveals that these sanctions are part of a wider attempt to restrict funding and support for groups engaged in organized violence. This move also coincides with a report detailing links between organizations like Masar Badil and public disorder following international incidents.
Lara Burns, a specialist on extremism, warns of networks promoting violence under the guise of charity. These organizations normalize terrorism as legitimate resistance and need monitoring.
The U.S. Treasury, along with allies like Canada, continues to disrupt financial channels that aid groups like the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization since 1997, it poses a continued threat through its support for associated networks.
