Will Ospreay Prepares for First AEW World Championship Defense

4 weeks ago 0

Will Ospreay quickly learned who would challenge him in his first All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Championship defense. He opened AEW “Dynamite” with a passionate speech, acknowledging Kenny Omega as “the best wrestler in the world” over the past decade.

Ospreay won the AEW World Championship at All In on August 30, 2026. Reflecting on the prestigious title’s history, he mentioned previous champions: Chris Jericho, ‘Hangman’ Page, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, and Swerve Strickland. He expressed amazement at standing among his heroes, realizing his hard work had paid off. “I am the standard now,” he declared.

Ospreay participated in a 10-man tag team match alongside Andrade El Idolo, Callum Newman, Francesco Akira, and Henare. They faced Gabe Kidd, Bishop Kaun, Ricochet, Toa Liona, and Clark Connors. Ospreay’s team emerged victorious, but a post-match brawl erupted.

During the chaos, Kidd aimed to strike Ospreay with a chair. Jon Moxley intervened, taking the chair away. Despite Kidd and Connors being part of Moxley’s faction, The Death Riders, Moxley showed support for Ospreay—likely stemming from helping Ospreay recover and handing him the Union Jack at All In.

Post-match, Moxley returned the world title to Ospreay, igniting excitement from the crowd. The video display announced their upcoming match at All Out on September 26 for the AEW World Championship. Meanwhile, Andrade secured a future title shot by winning the Casino Gauntlet match.

This sets the stage for a significant showdown between Ospreay and Moxley at the end of the month.
