Trump’s New Gold Phone in the Oval Office: Details and Speculations

A Glimpse at Trump’s Gold-Accented Desk Phone

President Donald Trump recently displayed a new gold-colored desk phone in the Oval Office, attracting attention not only to the device but also to a familiar red button beside it. Photographs captured the phone earlier this week, leading to confirmation of its new status during an Oval Office event.

Trump proudly shared, “Yeah! You know who gave this to me? A phone company.” The handset boasts extensive presidential branding, including the presidential seal, an image of the White House, Trump’s name, and the numbers “45” and “47,” marking his two nonconsecutive terms.

The phone fits into Trump’s broader redesign of the Oval Office, increasingly featuring gold accents since his return.

“The phone companies don’t make handsets—this is from Cisco,” said Reuters correspondent David Shepardson.

Identification of the Cisco IP Phone 8851

The White House has not specified the model, but the phone resembles Cisco’s 8851 series business phones. Historical photographs from 2017 show similar devices in Trump’s Oval Office.

The gold customization and branding have piqued interest. Technology enthusiasts identified the phone as similar to the Cisco IP Phone 8851, common in businesses and government offices.

Explaining Two Phones in the Oval Office

The recent picture showed two desk phones near the Resolute Desk, a familiar setup for Trump. During his previous term, multiple phones were present in the Oval Office. Presidents typically have access to several devices for various communications needs.

The setup mirrors Trump’s first administration and other historical White House arrangements.

The Red Button Theory

The image recalled conversations about a nearby wooden box with a red button. This button, famous from Trump’s first term, would summon a valet with a Diet Coke upon pressing, a feature documented in a 2017 Financial Times interview. Despite its removal during President Biden’s tenure, the button returned after Trump’s recent inauguration.

The opulent phone corresponds with Trump’s frequent use of gold finishes in ventures like the T1 Phone from Trump Mobile and other personal brand items.
