Andrew Tate has been formally charged with serious offenses, including trafficking minors, money laundering, and sexual crimes in Romania, according to news sources.
Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism released information on Friday describing the alleged crimes. Among these is the exploitation of a minor who was reportedly moved to Luton in the UK for sexual exploitation and pornography purposes.
Tristan Tate, Andrew Tate’s brother, is also facing charges for allegedly attempting to obstruct justice and aiding in the crimes. Although the Romanian authorities did not specifically name the Tate brothers, their statement mentioned an investigation into two British men aged 39 and 38 from the same family. Local media, including Romania’s national news agency Agerpres, identified the indicted individuals as the Tate brothers.
“We will scrutinize every aspect of (the indictment) and challenge any evidential, procedural, or legal deficiencies through the proper judicial channels,” said Eugen Vidineac, a Romanian lawyer representing the Tates, in a statement quoted by Reuters.
Currently, the Tate brothers are held in U.S. custody while awaiting a judicial decision on their extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face rape allegations. U.S. Marshals arrested them in Miami in July.
The brothers have persistently denied any wrongdoing related to legal actions in the UK and Romania. Their attorney, Joseph McBride, expressed to Newsweek post-arrest that Andrew and Tristan are innocent.
“We are confident that once a competent judge reviews the facts, and the Department of Justice addresses this flagrant misuse of authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will be released,” said McBride. “America doesn’t carry out Britain’s political initiatives,” he added.
