Tennessee Volunteers Honor Dolly Parton with Emotional Tributes

Dolly Parton’s passing touched countless fans, particularly in her home state of Tennessee, a place closely linked to her legacy. The Tennessee Volunteers football team paid tribute to her as they kicked off their 2026 season at Neyland Stadium.

Before the game, it was revealed that each player on the Volunteers team would wear an orange butterfly decal with Parton’s name on the back of their helmets. Head coach Josh Heupel announced that this tribute would remain in place throughout the season. He praised Parton’s global impact and her deep connection to East Tennessee, noting her pride in her roots and her vast contributions both locally and nationally. He stated, “A lady that was extremely proud of her roots. You look at her impact, just her ability to give back, make an impact to people, certainly here in East Tennessee.”

The Volunteers faced off against the Furman Paladins on Saturday, and several tributes honored Parton during the game. One highlight involved the entire stadium of 102,000 fans singing her iconic 1974 song, “I Will Always Love You.” The moment was poignant, uniting fans in a heartfelt tribute.

Additionally, the Vols have a tradition of playing a music track in the fourth quarter. Previously, they played Morgan Wallen’s “The Way I Talk.” On this occasion, Parton’s “My Tennessee Mountain Home” resonated through the stadium, showcasing her enduring influence and significance to Tennessee.

Dolly Parton’s legacy continues to be celebrated in various ways, illustrating the immense admiration and respect she commanded locally and beyond.
