One notable event that proceeded despite the weather was Lehua Lanning’s baby shower. Held at a beachside park on Kauai’s east side, the celebration took place under an open-air pavilion. Approximately 100 guests enjoyed local dishes such as kalua pig and smoked meat while reggae music played.
“It was either now or never,” said Lanning, who was expecting her first child, echoing concerns about the impending storm.
Preparations and Warnings
By Sunday afternoon, rain had begun to fall. Kauai officials urged residents to stay indoors as conditions were expected to worsen. Local authorities stressed caution amid the storm’s approach.
