President Donald Trump plans to observe the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks at the Pentagon on Friday. He aims to honor the victims and first responders who lost their lives during the tragic event.
Anna Kelly, White House principal deputy press secretary, highlighted Trump’s personal connection to the attacks as a New Yorker. Kelly stated that the president will pay tribute to those who perished and recognize the first responders who risked their lives.
Comprehensive Commemoration
While President Trump will be at the Pentagon, Vice President JD Vance will mark the occasion at the World Trade Center site. Other officials from the administration will gather in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, guaranteeing representation at all three significant locations linked to the attacks.
The remembrance efforts include participation by prominent figures such as former presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, joining Vance in New York.
Last year, Trump and the first lady attended a Pentagon ceremony and issued a Patriot Day proclamation, advocating for flags to be flown at half-staff. The president later attended a Yankees-Tigers game in New York featuring tributes to the victims.
Past Engagements
Throughout Trump’s first term, he has actively engaged in commemorative events. These include attending the Pentagon memorial several times and visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville.
As a real-estate developer in NYC during the attacks, Trump witnessed the events unfold, sharing his account of the explosions he saw from his window.
Trump stated in an interview, “I have a window that looks directly at the World Trade Center, and I saw this huge explosion. I was with a group of people and I really couldn’t even believe it.”
Traveling Memorial
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation brought its ‘Steel Across America’ tour to the White House. It features a 21-foot, 16,900-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center’s South Tower. This traveling memorial has made stops across 21 states to honor the victims and first responders.
