A massive Wendy’s burger that had been discontinued has made a comeback. With an astounding 3,000 calories, this burger is not just about satisfying hunger. It costs nearly $30 and has reignited enthusiasm in Edmond, Oklahoma. An announcement at a local franchise promotes the T-Rex burger challenge. This challenge rewards competitors who finish the nine-patty cheeseburger, packed with toppings, in nine minutes. Success earns you a T-shirt and a special prize, according to Allrecipes.
The burger comes with a $29.99 price tag, as reported by a Reddit post in early September. The sign reads, “Think you can take down the T-Rex? Prove it.” The public reaction on Reddit has been a mixture of humor and health concerns.
Gross. Dumb.
The prize is high cholesterol and clogged arteries.
Some joked that the burger is a “heart attack” waiting to happen. Others referenced Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, humorously noting he would disapprove.
However, several users expressed eagerness to tackle the challenge. Comments included claims of being able to “destroy” the massive burger. The burger’s appeal, they argue, makes it a “decent deal,” despite its unorthodox nature. Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas was humorously mentioned in this context as well.
Lauren Manaker, a dietitian from South Carolina, shared insights with Fox News Digital. She finds this novelty burger more about the adventure than nutrition.
One very large, highly processed meal can pack a lot of sodium, saturated fat, and calories into a short sitting, which may leave some people feeling uncomfortable afterward.
She advises those intrigued by the experience to consider sharing the burger. Also, it is beneficial to proceed with a balanced diet afterward. Plenty of water, fruits, vegetables, and other foods help manage the calorie impact.
An employee at the Edmond location informed Fox News Digital that the promotion is set to roll out across the state. The event kicks off on September 10. The special prize reportedly involves a meal voucher. Fries and drinks are not mandatory parts of the challenge.
This burger’s story goes back to the mid-2000s. Originally, it appeared as a joke in Sports Illustrated. This sparked public curiosity, with some attempting to order it at Wendy’s. A Canadian location in Brandon, Manitoba, eventually offered it officially. Eater’s 2013 report noted that corporate officials intervened due to health concerns.
For obvious reasons, Wendy’s of Brandon neither condones nor promotes the idea of anyone consuming a nine-patty hamburger in one sitting.
Over time, the T-Rex burger became a secret menu item. Social media users shared a workaround: order a Dave’s Triple and add six patties. This bypasses any official challenge or prizes. Meanwhile, Fox News Digital reached out to Wendy’s headquarters in Ohio for further comments on the revived trend.
