Singer Pink Clarifies Her Stance Amid Backlash Over Macklemore Post

3 weeks ago 0

Singer Pink recently addressed the controversy regarding her repost criticizing Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian remarks at Ed Sheeran’s MetLife Stadium shows. In a comprehensive statement, she clarified her views on Israel and Gaza and explained the misinterpretation of her initial posts.

Her repost from StopAntisemitism had accused Macklemore of spreading “anti-Israel propaganda” and suggested that Jewish fans deserved apologies and refunds. This, combined with what Pink describes as “snarky memes,” led to allegations of prejudice and calls for boycotts on social media.

Pink’s Statement: Her Current Perspective

Pink mentioned she had “been quiet in my own words for a week,” acknowledging that her previous repost consisted of words she did not write or fully agree with. She noted, “A repost isn’t a statement, and a meme isn’t a spine.”

“I was born a Jew. I didn’t pick it, and I’ve never hidden it,” Pink stated, emphasizing that people misjudged her beliefs without considering her past statements from October 2023.

In those past remarks, she identified Hamas as a terrorist organization and asserted Palestinians deserve a future that respects their humanity. She underscored that the protection of innocent lives should be a priority and condemned any celebration of a child’s death, regardless of their origin.

As a UNICEF ambassador for over ten years, Pink expressed sorrow for all lives lost, on both sides of the conflict. She emphasized the complexity of the war, stating she would not “litigate a complex war in an Instagram caption” nor recite slogans to regain followers.

This remains a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
