1 week ago 0

Grant Bowen emerges as a standout player for IC Catholic, embodying both talent and family legacy. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound junior excels in dual roles as a tight end and outside linebacker. With 38 Division I offers, his prospects include top teams like Indiana, Texas, Georgia, and Notre Dame.

Bowen appreciates engaging with various coaches, saying, “It’s enlightening to learn from them about college football.” However, he places more value on insights from his father, Matt Bowen, a former NFL safety who coaches at IC Catholic. “Having his guidance is beneficial,” Bowen shares, aligning with his lifelong commitment to football.

Aside from football, Bowen’s athletic journey includes basketball, baseball, track, and soccer. “His experience in multiple sports contributes to his explosive field presence,” Matt Bowen notes. The combination of athletic ability and football intelligence distinguishes him.

Coaching provided by IC Catholic enhances Bowen’s development. He shares a special bond with his father, discussing practice insights and football nuances at home. Matt Bowen finds coaching his son fulfilling, especially within IC Catholic’s strong football tradition.

The team’s dynamic thrives on the rapport between Bowen and his father. “Coach Bowen connects with everyone and brings out the best in us,” IC Catholic senior quarterback Nate Lang remarks on the father-son coaching dynamic.

Grant Bowen, starting as a tight end and outside linebacker, contributes significantly to IC Catholic’s success. In his sophomore year, he recorded 731 yards and 11 touchdowns as a receiver, with defensive contributions including 55 tackles. His performance propelled the Knights to the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

This season Bowen stands as a co-captain, demonstrating leadership and skill. With 486 receiving yards, seven touchdowns, and 22 tackles, his impact remains strong. “Having Grant simplifies my role,” Lang explains, emphasizing their two-year on-field synergy.

Coach Bill Krefft acknowledges Bowen’s outstanding qualities. “His physical and mental acumen are unmatched,” Krefft states, appreciating Bowen’s comprehensive understanding of the game. Bowen’s recruitment track mirrors his exceptional performance, planning to narrow down choices post-season with a commitment projected by next summer.

The recruiting process now involves early engagement, an experience unlike Matt Bowen’s era. “Recruiting starts sooner and involves more complexities,” he observes. Despite these changes, Grant Bowen manages the process maturely, advised by his father.

As Grant Bowen develops, his potential continues to grow. “He has room for physical and mental growth,” Matt Bowen assures, envisioning his son’s future at 220 pounds and excelling in college-level football.

Ultimately, Grant Bowen aspires to the NFL, inspired by his father’s career path. “My goal is to play in the NFL,” he confirms but remains focused on his current goals with the Knights, aiming for another state title.

Coach Krefft looks forward to Bowen’s continued contributions. “He’s been ready since day one,” Krefft expresses, valuing the additional seasons before Bowen graduates.

Even with time fleeting, Matt Bowen cherishes coaching his son. “It’s been incredibly rewarding, and I wish it lasted longer,” he reflects.
