UNITED NATIONS – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a warning Tuesday regarding potential Russian aggression towards other European nations. Speaking with Fox News Digital, he emphasized the high risk of new attacks as Moscow aims to destabilize European unity and diminish support for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy’s comments followed a meeting with President Donald Trump at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. When asked by Fox News Digital about the threat of Russia expanding its aggression to other European countries, Zelenskyy affirmed that the risk was significant for nations bordering Russia or Belarus.
“The risk of offensive by drones, missiles, or land operation is very high,” stated Zelenskyy.
A report from U.S. intelligence indicated that Russia might launch limited attacks on NATO allies to disrupt the organization. The Ukrainian President suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin could incite unrest in other areas of Europe due to the lack of success in Ukraine, potentially coercing Western governments to lessen their backing of Kyiv.
“How to divide unanimity in Europe? To attack somebody else. To attack and say, look, I will go further if you will not stop this,” Zelenskyy explained.
Drone incursions and disruptions across Europe have already begun, said Zelenskyy, as evidence of Moscow’s intimidation tactics. He cautioned that Putin’s inability to secure victory in Ukraine might lead to further confrontations, owing to domestic pressure to justify the ongoing conflict.
European Response to Russian Threat
When asked how European countries should react to the increasing danger, Zelenskyy advised to always respond.
“Respond. Always respond. It’s not about the war. If you don’t respond, Russians, they will go further,” he advised.
This warning arrives amid heightened apprehension concerning Russian activity in Europe. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently highlighted threats to peace in Europe at an EU-Arctic Summit. He urged a united response from European countries and NATO against Russia’s actions.
Concerns intensified following incidents such as the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, attributed to Russia by German authorities. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also warned of potential Russian attacks against NATO allies supporting Ukraine.
Notably, a drone entered Romanian airspace and another was intercepted by Italian fighter jets from Lithuania, allegedly originating from Russia. Such incursions underline the tangible threat faced by European nations.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs shared his concerns over European defenses against drone warfare, noting gaps that leave nations susceptible to Russian attacks.
Ukraine’s Defense Strategy
Zelenskyy’s discussion with Trump included potential mutual halts on energy infrastructure strikes and Ukraine’s need for additional air defense, notably Patriot missiles, before winter.
“We are ready,” Zelenskyy mentioned about a possible agreement on halting energy strikes.
Trump expressed willingness to aid Ukraine in acquiring more air defense systems, though no immediate promise on missile deliveries was made.
The meeting coincided with intensified aerial assaults by Russia and Ukraine, focusing on energy infrastructure as the UN assembly unfolded.
