On Saturday, a civilian assailant was apprehended outside MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. The person had “violently engaged” with security personnel, said reports citing the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office.
The civilian breached the perimeter of the Tampa base at around 1 p.m. The confrontation with security resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for one officer and the civilian, reported FOX 13 and WTSP-TV.
The base’s official Facebook page announced at approximately 2:30 p.m. that the Dale Mabry Gate was closed to all traffic until further notice. The message advised planning for the closure and avoiding the area.
The Dale Mabry Gate is currently closed to inbound and outbound traffic until further notice. Please plan accordingly and avoid the Dale Mabry Gate area until further notice.
Elsewhere, two suspects were detained after crashing through the Camp Pendleton gate with 112 pounds of cocaine and fentanyl.
The Tampa Police Department temporarily blocked traffic along South Dale Mabry Highway near the base’s main entrance after a suspicious package incident on March 16, 2026.
The investigation into the breach at MacDill Air Force Base continues. The reason behind the attack has not been disclosed by the base. MacDill houses the headquarters of U.S. Central Command.
