Phillies Triumph Over Braves in Thrilling Extra-Inning Victory

1 hour ago 0

Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series saw the Philadelphia Phillies clinch a dramatic 4-3 win against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Alec Bohm provided the crucial moment with a two-out homer in the 10th inning, forcing a winner-take-all Game 3.

The Phillies initially lagged 3-1, but Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper reversed the situation with consecutive homers in the seventh. Harper’s homer followed an earlier fielding misstep.

In the pivotal 10th inning, Andrew Painter emerged as the key player for Philadelphia. As a regular-season starter, he delivered three scoreless innings, relieving the Phillies’ strained bullpen. Painter successfully stranded two runners and struck out Dominic Smith after securing an ABS challenge victory.

Harper’s solo home run had previously tied the game in the eighth inning at Truist Park on September 30, 2026. The game unfolded under traditional extra-inning rules, without the automatic runner placement. Bohm’s homer, a 357-foot drive off Braves’ pitcher Didier Fuentes, marked his third career postseason home run.

Philadelphia aims to maintain its postseason advantage over the Braves in Game 3. History favors the Phillies, who triumphed over Atlanta in the 1993 NLCS and the 2022 and 2023 NLDS.

During the seventh inning, Atlanta’s Drake Baldwin drove in Sean Murphy with a double that glanced off Harper’s glove, granting the Braves a 2-1 lead. Despite Harper’s late season return to outfield play, he misjudged the ball’s trajectory near the warning track. Matt Olson’s sacrifice fly extended the lead.

The eighth inning saw the Phillies level the score with homers from Schwarber and Harper against Dylan Lee, previous winner of Tuesday’s 5-3 game. Schwarber’s shot covered 447 feet, and Harper’s followed with a 418-foot drive.

Tyler Mahle pitched admirably for Atlanta, allowing one run across seven innings. Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez conceded three runs over 6.2 innings, completing a career-high 116 pitches.

With Game 3’s start time pending, the Braves anticipate an MLB schedule announcement for either 2:15 p.m. ET or 8:15 p.m. ET, contingent on other Wild Card Series match results.
