A 21-year-old University of Georgia student survived an eight-story fall from an apartment window. She fell through a screen while dancing near an open window. The incident occurred at the Rambler Athens apartment complex on West Broad Street.

Witnesses reported seeing Kristin Sargent dancing on a couch or air mattress. She then fell through the screen near an open window. Sargent landed close to a pool on a courtyard located on the building’s second floor.

The police report indicates evidence of Sargent striking a metal bench during the fall. Officers noted blood on the bench cushion and a broken armrest.

Lt. Katie Jenkins, spokesperson for Athens-Clarke County Police Department, stated that the bench may have helped break Sargent’s fall. The incident is not under criminal investigation. Police confirm that Sargent is alert and conscious.

Emergency 911 audio from FOX 5 Atlanta captured the frantic moments following the fall. A caller explained, “We’re on the eighth floor. My friend just fell out of the window.” However, the caller could not determine whether Sargent was moving.

First responders transported Sargent to a hospital, where police interviewed her and witnesses. Forensic personnel launched an investigation, but the fall appears accidental.

The Rambler Athens apartment complex is reviewing the incident. Police have not commented on window safety measures. The University of Georgia has not provided additional information related to safety protocols.

Kristin Sargent is identified as a resident of the apartment where the fall happened. Further details about safety precautions at the site remain undisclosed.
