A 40-year-old Texas resident, Benny Caldera Jr., was arrested Wednesday after authorities suspected him of planning an attack on the State Capitol.
The arrest took place at his home in Converse, Texas. He faces charges of making a terroristic threat against a public servant. Caldera is currently held in Bexar County Jail.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced it received credible information on Tuesday regarding a potential violent attack scheduled for Thursday targeting the Capitol.
DPS special agents, collaborating with FBI and local law enforcement, acted swiftly to investigate the threat. By 3 a.m. Wednesday, DPS SWAT detained Caldera at his residence and transported him to jail.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the quick response, stating, “Outstanding work by @TxDPS with @FBISanAntonio and local partners resulting in swift arrest.”
Caldera was released on a $75,000 bond. Authorities have not shared details about the alleged attack or the information leading to the arrest. Moreover, no additional suspects have been publicly identified.
DPS informed Texas state legislators about the threat and subsequent arrest. The Capitol continued to operate under regular hours, but with an increased security presence to ensure safety.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott commended law enforcement efforts, affirming the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards threats against public institutions. He thanked DPS via social media for their effective response.
Fox News Digital contacted DPS for further details as investigations continue.
