The Harvard Crimson narrowly defeated the Colgate Raiders in a dramatic 20-17 win. The victory took place on Saturday night, featuring a swift play that turned the game around after a challenging false start.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Colgate seemed poised to win. Their quarterback, Jake Stearney, completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Matt Fogler, leaving Colgate with a lead and only 27 seconds left in the game.
Harvard quarterback Charlie Smith led a rapid advance up the field, setting up kicker Francisco Moscoso for a crucial field goal attempt. However, a false start penalty pushed Harvard out of field goal range, complicating their chances.
Smith seized his final opportunity, throwing a pass to Teigan Pelletier. Pelletier caught the ball but was short of the end zone. Despite defenders swarming him, he passed the ball to Nate Bailey, who dashed into the end zone as time ran out.
This thrilling finish secured Harvard’s win, boosting their record to 3-0. Bailey’s performance stood out as he made 16 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown. His number of receptions is the second-highest in a single game in Harvard’s history, surpassed only by Carl Owens.
Smith ended up with 369 passing yards and two touchdown passes. From Colgate, Stearney completed 21 of 39 passes for 188 yards, while Fogler contributed 12 catches for 138 yards.
The intense game culminated in a viral moment, widely shared among college football fans on social media. The win energized Harvard supporters as the team continued their undefeated streak.
