In Dayton, Ohio, former workers of Fuyao Glass America Inc. gathered to share their experiences with Congressman Ro Khanna. Fuyao, a Chinese-affiliated glass manufacturer, had set up operations in what used to be a General Motors plant.
Tiffany Moore, who worked at the factory for three years, described harsh conditions. She mentioned unbearable heat and felt that the company showed little regard for employee wellbeing.
“My experience at Fuyao was not a good experience.” — Tiffany Moore
Rep. Ro Khanna, who is part of the House Select Subcommittee on the Chinese Communist Party, visited Dayton to inspect Fuyao’s practices. He had requested information from the company about wage issues and potential violations of U.S. labor laws. The company provided only minimal responses.
Khanna expressed concerns about Fuyao’s lack of transparency and the possibility of the company hiding something.
“A less generous interpretation of your lack of transparency would be that your companies have something to hide.” — Rep. Ro Khanna
Demetria Hodges, another former employee who worked there for five years, shared her belief that Fuyao discouraged unionization. She reported attempts to frighten workers against voting for the union, followed by a pay raise tactic to dissuade organizing.
An incident was brought up by a former worker named Darrell, detailing how Fuyao did not halt operations after a tragic accident led to a colleague’s death. Ricky Patterson was killed in an industrial accident, but work continued almost immediately.
The meeting highlighted serious allegations and safety concerns at Fuyao, supported by various workers’ accounts.
