The Obama Foundation is hosting a watch party at the Midway Plaisance for the opening of the Obama Presidential Center on June 18. The official grand opening ceremony starts at 11 a.m. but is invite-only, featuring performances and storytelling about the Foundation’s efforts to inspire and empower communities, as stated in their release.
Interested individuals can join the watch party near the presidential center. Requests for up to four free watch party tickets are available at obama.org/grandopening. Ticket applications must be submitted by May 26, although space is limited and tickets are not guaranteed.
The event at the Midway Plaisance offers a “picnic-style atmosphere” starting at 9 a.m., with music, an art market, local food vendors, and exclusive merchandise. While museum tickets for the opening weekend are sold out, tickets are occasionally available after August 10.
Local reservations for free admission on Illinois Free Days are fully booked through November. The center also offers a campus tour including art, architecture, and landscape design, plus museum access, priced at $75 to $95 depending on the day, sold out through September 20.
Museum tickets provide entry at specified times; however, many areas of the campus such as the Chicago Public Library branch, playground, athletic center, park space, and the Sky Room are free and open to the public.
This announcement follows ongoing preparatory activities like new artistic commissions and the unveiling of a full-scale Oval Office replica. These steps contribute to the much-anticipated opening of the Obama Center.
