Lane Kiffin Joins LSU, Enhances Coaching Staff with Ed Orgeron

1 month ago 0

LSU has made significant waves in the college football scene by bringing Lane Kiffin on board from Ole Miss, an SEC competitor. Earlier this year, LSU successfully recruited Kiffin as their head coach after he led the Rebels to an exceptional season, achieving an 11-1 record. Ole Miss secured the No. 6 seed in the College Football Playoff. Although eliminated in the semifinals by the Miami Hurricanes, the team won two CFP games.

Kiffin wasted no time in strengthening LSU’s roster through the transfer portal shortly after assuming his role. His coaching staff is also notable, and Wednesday saw the addition of Ed Orgeron to his team.

The announcement from LSU was shared on social media platform X, showing Orgeron shaking hands with Kiffin. The school highlighted Orgeron’s position as special assistant to recruiting and defense.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel commented on the hiring, noting Orgeron’s ability to travel for recruiting due to recent changes in rules. Recognized as an exceptional recruiter, Orgeron brings his in-depth knowledge of LSU and Kiffin, enhancing his ability to attract new talent.

Orgeron is a familiar face among LSU supporters. Serving as head coach from 2016 to 2021, Orgeron led the team to a 51-20 record, secured three bowl victories, and captured the national championship in 2019. That championship-winning team is often regarded as one of the greatest in college football history.

Thirteen players from that remarkable team are now in the NFL. Key figures include Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings. Other players include Ja’Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals), Damien Lewis (Seattle Seahawks), Ed Ingram (Houston Texans), Lloyd Cushenberry (Buffalo Bills), Damone Clark (Detroit Lions), Patrick Queen (Pittsburgh Steelers), and K’Lavon Chaisson (Washington Commanders). The group’s talent spreads further with Derek Stingley Jr. (Houston Texans), Kristian Fulton (Kansas City Chiefs), Cor’Dale Flott (Tennessee Titans), and Grant Delpit (Cleveland Browns).

Orgeron’s previous head-coaching roles at USC (2013) and Ole Miss (2005-2007) further enhance his credentials, making him a key addition to LSU’s coaching staff.
