High-Speed Chase in Wisconsin Ends with Airborne Car

1 month ago 0

A high-speed chase in Wisconsin earlier this month drew significant attention after a fleeing driver went airborne, jumping his car over another vehicle. This event, reminiscent of scenes from popular action shows, became widely viewed following the release of dashcam footage by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, May 9.

According to FOX 6, the chase began when the Wisconsin State Patrol stopped a vehicle and called for backup due to an active felony warrant. When a Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputy and an additional trooper arrived, the driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes, took off, leading to a high-speed pursuit.

The chase escalated when Stokes lost control and his car went into a ditch, up an embankment, and flew over another vehicle. The airborne vehicle cleared the road entirely before landing in a field on the opposite side. Despite this dramatic turn of events, Stokes exited the vehicle and had to be subdued with a Taser before being apprehended by authorities.

The pursuit spanned four and a half miles, culminating in a brief airborne segment. Following the chase, Stokes was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree reckless endangering safety and several counts of eluding an officer. The court set his cash bond at $25,000, with a return to court scheduled for June 24.

At the time of the incident, Stokes was already out on bond for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He was meant to appear in court but failed to do so, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.
